Ely Sews is about making quilts with strong color, traditional piecing, and a modern point of view.

The work often starts with familiar quilt blocks, geometric shapes, curves, and repeated forms, then pushes them through color choices that feel a little more current and unexpected. I’m especially interested in how value, contrast, and fabric placement can change the way a pattern reads.

My style falls somewhere between traditional and modern quilting. I like classic construction and recognizable block structure, but I’m drawn to cleaner layouts, bold color combinations, and a slightly retro palette.

This site is a place to share finished quilts, works in progress, fabric choices, pattern experiments, and the decisions that happen along the way. If you enjoy piecing, color planning, and seeing how a quilt develops from block to finished piece, you’ll feel at home here.
